Research and planning: Final magazine and evaluation

What i did?
In my college magazine i took an image of a student, photo shopped thew background out and inserted the image of the student into an A4 canvas in photo shop. I then inserted other images such as the building and the principle and cut out his body and his head was all that remained. I  then added all of the text into the canvas in Photoshop and an image of the Clarendon logo for the mast head and added the name of the magazine "Clarendon Weekly." I then changed all of the background to black and amended anything that needed amending, and then i was done. I believe i did meet of of the brief criteria because the cover contained all of the conventions and everything needed to be in the magazine.

What went well?
I believe my colour scheme went well because it made my cover look really professional with the black, white and grey look. Also my fonts went well as i believe they look good and really suits my magazine. I got my fonts from "Da font." Also my cover lines went well especially with some of the images which go with it. Also m y mast head i believe goes really well because of the sizing and its all really plain with a slight bit of colour and it all works really well.

Even better if...
My magazine could be better if my main image was better because i really struggled with having to get the background out and the quality did not look the best so if i was to do it again I would improve the image quality. Also to improve I think the text in the mast head could have an effect so that it stood out some more like a drop shadow or something to make it bolder.

Research and planning: Contents page

This is my contents page, it isn't fully finished, I need to add some more colour however this is the base for it and I am pretty happy with it. This will be used for the the college magazine I have produced.

Research and planning: Magazine draft

This is my final magazine, it includes all of the codes and conventions such as cover lines, main cover line, main image, barcode, date etc. It has a professional colour scheme of black and white with a slight bit of colour in there. I am happy with this piece. After audience feedback I decidided to change the colour of the background.

Research and planning: Interview quesitions

1. Is the colour scheme ok?
Jack: "Yes they are good because the black and white look classy."
Emma:"No because there could be more colours added to stand out more."
Jake:"Yes I like the two main colours of black and white you have used."

2. Do the images look good?
Jack: "Yes i like the way you have only got the principals head. I think this is good."
Emma:"No because the main image doesn't look real and you can tell you have cute the person out and it doesn't look realistic."
Jake:"Yes they are ok, the image of the college is good, and i like the effect you used on it."

3. Are the fonts ok?
Jack: "Yes i think they look very professional and suit with the theme on the magazine."
Emma:"No because they are all the same, if they were a few different then it would be better."
Jake:"Yes they are good, they really stand put, i like it."

4. Are there any mistakes that you think needs amending?
Jack: " I think you should change some of the font colours so they stand out more."
Emma: "Other then what Jack said about the fonts, no I think it is all good."
Jale: "No i like it all the way it is."

5. What are your overall opinions and how could some aspects be improved?
Jack:" I think it is very good but to improve you could change the back ground."
Emma:"other then you needed to smooth out the main image, the rest is really good, I like it."
Jake:"I like it all and nothing needs improving."

Research and Planning: Masthead designs

These are my three masthead designs where i used different fonts for what i believed the theme was going off the names. I created these in preparation of my college magazine.

Research and planning: magazine

These are my hand drawn designs for my magazine and contents page. For the contents page and one of the magazine covers they are in a layout and on the other magazine it is in full draft of how everything will look.

Research and planning: Medium close up shots

These are some examples of medium close up shots.

Research and planning: College magazine analysis

You can tell this is a college magazine because of the masthead, this clearly indicates its a college magazine because it is called "COLLEGE." The mise en scene because of the props as he is holding some books. The cover lines because they are all based for students such as "Dancehall's bright future." This is aimed at a student. And finally the plug because mainly college students would want to go paint balling.

Research and planning: InDesign tutorial

I learnt how to use InDesign. The tools i used are Place to insert the text and images, i used the rectangle tool, to create the back ground and then arrange and send to back tool to make the rectangle my background. I also used text and text editing for colours and font and size.
A am doing this in preparation of my preliminary task.

This is my first attempt at editing a person in photoshop. Some of the tools i used are colour replacement tool, i used brushes, mixer brush, and layers by keeping the original but turning the opacity down. I also used the pencil tool, and paint bucket for the back ground.
